Writing Box. 1525, England. This writing box was made by the royal household of Henry VIII of England. It is inscribed with both the names of Henry and Catherine of Aragon, his first wife. Paintings of Mars, God of War and Venus, Goddess of love, with her son, Cupid line the opening compartment. This box would have held writing paraphernalia such as ink bottles, quills and sometimes scissors. It may have belonged to Henry or Catherine.
I want this. Or a reproduction. But cripes, that’s a pretty writing box.
